Government Relations

About Government Relations

KU’s government relations team communicates the official positions of the university to elected and appointed leaders and policymakers at the federal, state and local level. It works closely with members of the U.S. Congress and Kansas Legislature, as well as with the administrations of the President of the United States and Governor of Kansas.

The Office of Government Relations coordinates with the chancellor, provost and all three executive vice chancellors, as well as with university academic and business leaders. It also works to inform students, faculty and staff about KU’s policy agenda and how they can help promote KU’s policy priorities.

Keith Yehle

Keith Yehle serves as director of federal relations, working to promote KU’s federal agenda. Keith is a KU graduate and a native Kansan who spent more than 14 years working on Capitol Hill for members of the Kansas congressional delegation. Before joining KU in June 2005, Keith was legislative director to Sen. Pat Roberts, responsible for carrying out many important legislative matters.

Kathy Damron

Kathy Damron is director of state relations, working with state policymakers on behalf of KU. Kathy has more than twenty years of experience in public relations, grassroots coalition building and lobbying, both in Washington, DC and Kansas. Prior to forming her own lobbying and public relations firm, Damron served as an assistant to three prominent Kansas elected officials: Sen. Bob Dole, Rep. Pat Roberts and Gov. Mike Hayden.

If you would like to have a member of the government relations team make a presentation about a specific issue or describe the legislative process for a student group, class or faculty or staff meeting, please contact Keith Yehle at kyehle@ku.edu.
