As the largest state university in Kansas, the University of Kansas is a key source of skilled workers, cutting-edge research and direct services for the people and businesses of Kansas. KU is Kansas’ 6th largest employer and more than 140,000 alumni live in the state.
As a result, KU works closely with the governor and the members of the Kansas Legislature on issues including education, health care, job creation and countless other topics of concern to Kansans.
KU’s Office of Government Relations communicates regularly with legislators and other state officials, answering questions and providing information on issues related to KU and to Kansas as a whole. It also provides policymakers with insights into how specific bills and policies impact the university.
Roughly 23 percent of KU’s budget comes from state appropriations, while the remainder of KU’s budget is supplemented by more than $700 million in annual revenues, including tuition, research grants and support from the KU Endowment Association.
