Chancellor speaks to Kansas House Education Budget Committee
University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway testified before the Kansas House Education Budget Committee. He discussed several of KU's recent accomplishments in teaching, research and service, as well as ways that the Legislature could further support the university's mission of working for the people of Kansas.

Atkinson updates legislators on doctor training, cancer effort
Dr. Barbara Atkinson, executive vice chancellor for the KU Medical Center and executive dean of the medical school, updated legislators on efforts underway at the medical center to increase the number of doctors in Kansas. She also discussed the status of the effort to obtain a National Cancer Institute designation for the KU Cancer Center.

Atkinson, Page say agreement to strengthen KUMC, KU Hospital
Dr. Barbara Atkinson, executive vice chancellor for the KU Medical Center and executive dean of the medical school, testified with Dr. Bob Page, president and CEO of the University of Kansas Hospital, to the Kansas House Committee on Government Efficiency and Technology. During their appearance they discussed the affiliation agreement between KUMC and KU Hospital and how it will strengthen both institutions.

Warren supports bill to spur private sector research at KU
Steve Warren, vice provost for research and graduate studies, testified to the House Taxation Committee in support of a bill that would extend a public university's property tax exemption to include a private company's R&D efforts performed in a university laboratory. This would help new and existing companies partner with universities to develop products and take them to market, as well as giving students and faculty new opportunities to work on real-world problems.

Kansas legislators hear about UKanTeach program
Jan Lariviere, associate director for teacher development at KU's Center for Science Education, testified to the House Education Committee about UKanTeach - an innovative new program that provides students the opportunity to earn a degree in mathematics or science, as well as a teaching license, in four years. This program will help meet Kansas' need for math and science teachers.
